5 Timber Species to Consider for Your Sydney Home

The best timber for a room is not decided by colour or hardness alone. Compare its appearance with the board construction, finish and installation system. These five timbers are among the materials Design Timber Flooring works with.
1. Blackbutt
Blackbutt offers pale to light-brown tones with natural variation. It is an option to explore when you want an Australian hardwood with a lighter appearance. Compare several boards to understand the grade and grain; a single sample cannot represent every board in the finished floor.
2. Spotted Gum
Spotted Gum can show a broader mix of warm tones and distinctive grain. Consider it when visible timber character is part of the design. View representative samples beside your cabinetry and other fixed finishes. A hard timber can still be marked or indented, so discuss the coating and use as well.
3. Brushbox
Brushbox has warm pink-brown tones and a comparatively even-looking texture. It is worth sampling for traditional interiors or rooms where you prefer a less pronounced grain pattern. Check the actual supplied grade and finish rather than expecting all boards to share one shade.
4. Sydney Blue Gum
Sydney Blue Gum brings pink to red-brown tones. Compare those warm undertones with the rest of the room. Timber appearance changes with exposure and finishing, so discuss the likely variation and avoid treating a photograph as a fixed colour promise.
5. European Oak
